Dear Friends of Senior Pride,

Life is filled with new beginnings. No one knows that better than the Senior Pride tribe. We’ve been around the block a few times… over the mountain, and through the woods. Today we find ourselves launching another new adventure:

January 1, 2022
we are taking off with pride
as an independent 501(c)3 non-profit
… and we hope you will be soaring with us!

The last two years of COVID and quarantine have challenged everyone, but together we have persevered. Senior Pride has continued to innovatively hold our community together with eight core programs focused on our mission: celebrating, supporting, and uniting LGBTQI+ older adults. And despite COVID our numbers have grown to include more program participants and supporters than ever.

When COVID restrictions eased mid-summer we launched monthly Gatherings in Himmel Park where we always meet new people. Some are struggling with the death of a loved one, others have just moved to Tucson and are seeking friends. Everyone is in need of connection. Our Community Cares Program continues to visit the homebound and isolated with hundreds of hours of companionship. Our Speaker Series, Book Club, Cultural Workshops, Grief and Support Groups, each in their own way unites older adults and offers camaraderie. Senior Pride’s Advance Medical Care Planning helps us all to own our futures with confidence.

Becoming our own federally recognized and independent organization is an enormous accomplishment for our community, and with your continued support we will be able to achieve even more!

For 2022 we are excited to announce a 12-month initiative to bring Health and Wellbeing programming to older LGBTQI+ adults. From expert speakers, live and on Zoom, to outdoor activities in local parks, we will address a number of topics: Nutritional Needs and Exercise, Mental Wellbeing, Practical Needs for Older Adults – all with an eye to the unique experience that we as older LGBTQI+ adults share.

Our community continues to face discrimination in healthcare and housing. As older adults we are more likely than our straight counterparts to live alone and without the support of family. Lifetimes of stigma have taken their toll on us, mentally and physically … and yet we are also wildly resilient, experienced, and powerful. Together we thrive!

Senior Pride is taking off for a whole new adventure as an independent 501(c)3 nonprofit on January 1, because of you! Your contributions, your participation, your volunteer hours and devotion. You have built this organization for our community, and we thank you.

Please give as generously as you can this year to ensure that this new beginning takes Southern Arizona Senior Pride over the rainbow!

With sincere gratitude,

In September 2021, Senior Pride
board members, staff, lead
volunteers, and community
stakeholders gathered for a visioning
session to ask: Now that Senior Pride
is stepping out on its own as an
independent 501(c)3, what are our
goals for the next 5 to 10 years?

You can help us make this vision
a reality in the coming years:

1. Senior Pride will provide programming and social opportunities with increasing reach for LGBTQI+ older adults, culminating in the establishment of a Senior Center

2. Senior Pride will offer leadership for an initiative to establish both market rate and affordable housing, as well as continuing care options for LGBTQI+ older adults in Pima County

3. Senior Pride will advance equity for LGBTQI+ older adults by strengthening and expanding advocacy and advisory participation within the broader community

4. Senior Pride will ensure financial sustainability for our organization far into the future
