Event Series Event Series: Senior Pride Gayme Day!

Senior Pride Gayme Day!

July 11, 2023 @ 1:00 pm 3:00 pm

Do you make time for play and laughter in your life? In the words of George Bernard Shaw, “We don’t stop playing because we grow old, we grow old because we stop playing.”

Research has shown for years that games can support cognitive health in older adults. Games can enhance the brain’s processing speed and memory skills. Guess what? They’re also fun and a great way to socialize with folks you might not know so well … yet.

If you share a laugh with others, you all feel happier, more positive, and more relaxed. Humor gets you out of your head and away from your troubles. Even if you grew up in a household where laughter was not a common sound, you can learn to laugh at any stage of life.

It’s fun to have a good laugh, but did you know it can actually improve your health? It’s true: Laughter is strong medicine.

William Fry, MD, Professor Emeritus at Stanford University Medical School, has devoted 50 years to laughter research. He explains, “from a physical standpoint we know that laughter conditions the heart muscle, exercises the lungs and diaphragm, works all the abdominal and thoracic muscles, boosts the immune system and even increases adrenaline and blood flow to the brain.”

The Senior Pride Health and Wellbeing committee invites you to join us now on the second Tuesday of each month for a time of fun, challenge, and friendship. Bring you own favorite game or play one of the many we will have available.

We’re meeting in the Community Room of the Habitat for Humanity offices at 3501 N. Mountain. Although recommended, masks are not required.

See you there!
