Pima Council on Aging (PCOA)

This is the next in a series of events in which we examine LGBTQ senior needs and how to address them. The objective of this series is to unite efforts and strengthen a sense of community around the needs of older LGBTQ adults.
You do not need to have been at previous meetings in this series to come to this one.
In this event, Next Steps: Action Planning, teams formed in previous meetings will report on Cultural Competency for Long Term Care Providers, Advocacy (for changing laws/ordinances to prevent discrimination), Health Care Access and Social Interaction and People of Color.
In November, PCOA convened local older adults in a Community Dialogue Event. This was followed by the Southern Arizona Senior Pride’s Community Forum on February 7. Participants at these gatherings heard reports about the needs and concerns of older LGBTQ adults in southern Arizona. In Next Steps: It’s Time to Act on March 24th, we turned our attention to the priorities that emerged from questionnaires compiled in preceding events.
The meeting is facilitated by Sandy Davenport of PCOA, Lavina Tomer of Southern Arizona Senior Pride, Sylvia Mulka of the LGBT&S Alliance Fund and Abby Jensen of the Tucson GLBT Commission. LGBTQ and allies are encouraged to participate.
