Pride in Our Past with Jamie Lee

November 9, 2021 @ 2:00 pm 3:30 pm

Join us November 9th on Zoom when Jamie A. Lee will discuss our Pride community’s history as preserved in the Arizona Queer Archives. Included in the diverse collections:

  • Lesbian Feminists in the 70s—how they changed Tucson;
  • Stories recorded by iconic LGBTQI+ local treasures;
  • The struggles, sorrows, and triumphs that made our present possible.

Jamie will discuss the array of objects, histories, posters and, even, clothing and eyeglasses, that so graphically illustrate the rich lives of our Pride Tribe.

Founder and director of the Arizona Queer Archives, Jamie A. Lee is Associate Professor in the School of Information at the University of Arizona, where their research and teaching attend to critical archival theory and methodologies, multimodal media-making contexts, storytelling, and bodies. Lee’s book, Producing the Archival Body, (Routledge, 2021) interrogates how power circulates and is deployed in archival contexts in order to build critical understandings of how deeply archives influence and shape the production of knowledges and human subjectivities. For more on their research: www.thestorytellinglab.io Lee is the founder and director of the Arizona Queer Archives, AQA, which is Arizona’s first LGBTQI archives.
