Chicanas in Resistance

Chicanas have led the fight for justice, nationally and in the southwest. Retired Pima Community College history professor, Lupe Castillo, discusses the women who’ve inspired and motivated key social justice movements.

Lupe Castillo is co-founder of the University of Arizona’s Movimiento Estudiantil Chicano de Aztlán (MEChA). With her life partner Margo Cowan and Isabel Garcia and Raquel Rubio Goldsmith, she led the Manzo Area Council with programs devoted to justice for all—the women became known as “las Mujeres de Manzo.” She was one of the first teachers of Chicano/a Studies and helped establish El Rio Neighborhood Center and the Joaquin Murrieta Park. Join Lupe to hear the stirring stories of Chicanas in Resistance.
