Dear Senior Pride Ally,
LGBT older people are more likely to experience isolation and to not have social networks that prevent loneliness and depression. LGBT older adults are more likely to live alone and to not have children or family to support or care for them. 80% of straight older adults rely on family as they age – only 20% of LGBT older people have that same safety net.
“My disability left me lonely, anxious and disconnected. I am happy to have someone who visits weekly. I am energized by our conversations and have more inspiration and creativity.”
–Recipient of Senior Pride’s Community Cares Program
Your donations, and support from Pima Council on Aging and Southern Arizona AIDS Foundation, helped us initiate The Senior Pride Community Cares Program-Tucson. This program seeks to end isolation in our community by providing friendly visits and phone calls to homebound people 55 and older and people with disabilities. Since October 2017 we have trained 20 volunteers. We currently visit and call 13 people from ages 55 – 95 who are isolated and alone. They want connection to their LGBT community. THEY NEED US. WE NEED EACH OTHER.
Your outstanding generosity also enables Senior Pride to produce quality cultural events such as films, lectures, and poetry readings, as well as monthly potlucks, support groups, book club, speakers, the newsletter and other media outreach. Thank you for acknowledging that Senior Pride is a vital part of our community. Donate today. Consider a Monthly Donation.
We are the generation who threw open the doors of LGBT equality. We will not stop now!
Thank you for all of your incredible support,
Lavina Tomer, Chair
