Dec 2017 Appeal to Friends of Senior Pride

Dear Friends:

Your generous donations to Southern Arizona Senior Pride keep us flourishing. In the face of snow, sleet, wind and rain, illness, aging, and being marginalized, our volunteers are vital and ambitious. Your support nourishes our commitment and promotes a place for LGBTQI older people in the Tucson Community.

We are an all volunteer organization. We need you in order to continue Senior Pride’s growth and accomplishments. Your donations at this time of year will make a difference in sustaining the progress made bit by bit, building block by building block — for 15 years!

Our Building Blocks

We marched (okay, some of us less briskly than others) in this year’s Pride Parade and lapped up the applause we received up and down the parade route. The next day, we continued to spread the word at our table at Pride in the Park.

Community Events
One purpose of our events is to build community solidarity. The third annual “Words of Wisdom” Poetry by LGBTQ Elders” at the University of Arizona’s Poetry Center was a wonderful success. Nine older poets were joined by TC Tolbert, Tucson’s Poet Laureate. In March, we sponsored LGBTQ historian Lillian Faderman at the Tucson Festival of Books and in April, shone a spotlight on LGBTQ veterans.

Our monthly newsletter, weekly e-blast notices, website, and Facebook page share information about what’s happening for older people in our community.

Social Gatherings
Each month we host an Intergenerational Potluck, perhaps the only one locally that brings together people across the LGBTQ spectrum. Our quarterly dinner for youth at EON is fun and opens a dialogue across age barriers. Our new monthly book club is a great addition.

Recently we launched Southern Arizona Community Cares Program-Tucson. We offer friendly visits and/or phone calls for people who are 55+, disabled and homebound, or living in a Care Community. Most have less or no contact with the LGBTQ community and are isolated and lonely. »Learn more about Our Community Cares

We support on-going groups: Alzheimer’s Association LGBTQI Caregivers Group, YWCA LBTQ Women’s Grief Group, Center for Community Dialogue, LGBTQI Elder Circle, and Pima Council on Aging LGBTQ Welcoming Caregivers Support Group.

Your end of year donation, which can include an Arizona Charitable Tax Credit donation ($400 single, $800 couple filing jointly), will allow us to sustain our growth and service.
Please give generously.
